{"id":2608,"date":"2021-02-17T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-02-17T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.impactoneducation.org\/?p=2608"},"modified":"2021-04-27T23:03:04","modified_gmt":"2021-04-27T23:03:04","slug":"inspiring-underrepresented-students-to-pursue-stem-careers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.impactoneducation.org\/es\/2021\/02\/17\/inspiring-underrepresented-students-to-pursue-stem-careers\/","title":{"rendered":"Inspirando a los estudiantes subrepresentados a seguir carreras STEM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>El a\u00f1o pasado, iniciamos una asociaci\u00f3n con <a href=\"https:\/\/www.couragion.com\/promise\">Couragion<\/a>, una empresa de software de propiedad local que trabaja para inspirar a los estudiantes subrepresentados a seguir carreras en ciencias, tecnolog\u00eda, ingenier\u00eda y matem\u00e1ticas (STEM). Esta empresa dirigida por mujeres utiliza una plataforma en l\u00ednea para proporcionar experiencias de aprendizaje inclusivas y basadas en el trabajo que presentan a los estudiantes los trabajos del futuro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>El programa piloto Couragion<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Propusimos un programa piloto al Distrito Escolar del Valle de Boulder (BVSD) para implementar Couragion con el fin de cumplir con los objetivos profesionales y t\u00e9cnicos del distrito. Nuestro objetivo era ver si este nuevo software pod\u00eda alinearse de manera m\u00e1s precisa con estos objetivos que el programa Career Pathways, un programa de tutor\u00eda interno que ayuda a los estudiantes de primaria a explorar carreras. Trabajando con Arlie Huffman, Directora de Educaci\u00f3n CTE de BVSD, y Katie Romero, Directora de Apoyo Estudiantil de BVSD, pudimos lanzar el programa en el oto\u00f1o de 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Qui\u00e9n particip\u00f3 en el piloto<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Nos enfocamos en cinco escuelas intermedias de BVSD para el programa piloto Couragion para llegar a una muestra representativa de escuelas que representan diversas geograf\u00edas, entornos acad\u00e9micos y demograf\u00eda socioecon\u00f3mica. Sus consejeros escolares recibieron capacitaci\u00f3n en septiembre de 2020, y luego sus estudiantes recibieron acceso a la plataforma durante ocho semanas.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los estudiantes completaron 4.580 \u201cmisiones\u201d profesionales a lo largo del programa, y cada estudiante complet\u00f3 un promedio de 4,1 misiones.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Las tasas de participaci\u00f3n variaron de 29 a 39% y los estudiantes de sexto grado utilizaron el software con mayor frecuencia.<\/li><li>Las estudiantes mujeres participaron en una tasa m\u00e1s alta (49%) que los estudiantes hombres (46%)<\/li><li>33% de los estudiantes participantes eran estudiantes de color (una poblaci\u00f3n que comprende el 19.8% de la poblaci\u00f3n total de estudiantes de BVSD)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Hallazgos iniciales<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Los estudiantes fueron encuestados cada vez que usaron Couragion, y el programa mostr\u00f3 un mayor conocimiento de las carreras STEM y los recursos escolares. Los resultados piloto incluyen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>14% aumento en el conocimiento de registro de cursos relacionado con la trayectoria profesional interesada del estudiante<\/li><li>2-7% aumento en la intenci\u00f3n de los estudiantes de seguir una carrera STEM<\/li><li>42% de estudiantes con la intenci\u00f3n de inscribirse en un curso o actividad relacionada con STEM<\/li><li>78% de los estudiantes planearon trabajar m\u00e1s duro en sus cursos STEM<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Lecciones aprendidas<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Los estudiantes participantes demostraron autoconciencia, pensamiento cr\u00edtico y un conocimiento m\u00e1s amplio de las posibilidades profesionales:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>&quot;Me encanta dise\u00f1ar cosas, y nunca pens\u00e9 que hubiera un trabajo como este&quot;.<\/strong><br><em>mujer, estudiante de color, grado 7, dise\u00f1adora gr\u00e1fica<\/em><br><br><\/li><li><strong>\u201cSimplemente no quiero estar en la parte del ingeniero. Otro es tener un horario flexible. Mi principal objetivo profesional es tener un trabajo en la industria m\u00e9dica y del cuidado de la piel, incluida la investigaci\u00f3n \u201d.<\/strong><br><em>mujer, estudiante de color, grado 8<\/em><br><br><\/li><li><strong>\u201cMe gustar\u00eda ser arquitecto cuando sea grande. Y si lo soy cuando sea mayor, tendr\u00e9 que mejorar en mis matem\u00e1ticas &quot;.<\/strong><br><em>masculino, estudiante de color, grado 7<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Que sigue<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Los objetivos de este programa piloto se extienden m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de la exposici\u00f3n profesional para impactar en la selecci\u00f3n de cursos y la percepci\u00f3n de c\u00f3mo las clases STEM pueden conducir a carreras. Con nuestros socios en BVSD, ahora estamos evaluando los pr\u00f3ximos pasos para determinar si debemos continuar ofreciendo Couragion a los estudiantes de secundaria de BVSD en el a\u00f1o escolar
