Community Scholars Intern

Why I work at Impact on Education:
I believe in the transformative power of education. Education shapes equitable opportunities for all students. I am driven by Impact on Education’s mission to address systemic disparities in education and ensure that every student, regardless of their background, has access to the resources and support they need to succeed. The organization’s purposeful mission aligns well with my broader commitment to social change and fostering a more just and inclusive society through education.

What makes me smile:
Quality time with friends and family, a good iced (or hot) vanilla latte with almond milk, California sunsets, sushi, my dog

Favorite teacher:
I have too many favorite teachers—most of them from college! But, my go-to answer is my fifth grade teacher, Jeanne Newman. She was stern, but always fair. I recall her having lovely witty humor and a firm, dynamic voice that captured the attention of any student near or far. I have always been a quiet, reserved kid and student. Yet, with Mrs. Newman’s history teaching my older siblings and her impactful faith in my academic abilities, I felt bolstered in voluntarily taking on leadership roles and meaningful responsibilities. I did my best that year to go above and beyond—from leading our class’s States Day presentation in front of students and parents to reciting in performance the entirety of Patrick Henry’s “Give me liberty or give me death!” speech. Thanks to Mrs. Newman, I broached a new level of confidence and trust in my academic capabilities.

More about me:
I am from Los Angeles, CA, and am currently a senior at the University of Colorado Boulder. I chose to come to CU Boulder and Colorado after hearing my sister-in-law’s glowing reviews. I have happily been exploring the Boulder area since 2021—hiking, getting in refreshing morning runs on the city’s local high school tracks, and trying new restaurants (and frequenting trusty favorites). Although I miss the constant sunshine and bountiful beaches of home, I enjoy the diverse, mountainous Colorado landscape, possessing beautiful pockets I have loved checking out and cherishing.
