Crayons to Calculators – OLD
About Crayons to Calculators
Crayons to Calculators is a school-supply drive created to ensure that local students head back to school with the tools they need to succeed.
Why we do it: There are over 11,000 kids in the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley school districts who qualify for free and reduced lunch—an indicator of poverty. The cost of basic school supplies ($60–$80 per student), presents a financial burden for many of these kids’ families. Crayons to Calculators aims to cut that cost and move one step closer to eliminating the achievement gap. Having the right school supplies is a critical first step to help a student achieve higher literacy levels, improve academic performance, and graduate. It also enables schools to operate more effectively.
Our goal: For the 2019-2020 school year, we will provide full backpacks to 11,000 students—pre-school through high school – across Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley.
Who are we? We’re a collaborative partnership between two district foundations: the Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley, serving St. Vrain Valley School District and Impact on Education, serving Boulder Valley School District. Our beneficiaries are the students in both of the school districts – which together serve all of Boulder County.
Impact on Education is the fiduciary for Crayons to Calculators.
Crayons to Calculators is truly a collaborative endeavor! Because of the extensive support received from these extraordinary organizations, students of the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain School Districts are better prepared for success at the start of each school year.

Title Sponsor to Crayons to Calculators
Western Disposal Services has been a presenting partner of Impact on Education for over ten years, providing Crayons to Calculators with over $1.5 million to empower students in need by giving them the supplies they need to be succeed in school.
How does one value the heart of an organization? How does one evaluate the soul of an organization when comparing the bottom line financial numbers and when comparing comparable services? Western Disposal goes above and beyond any expectation community members, families, individuals, governments, businesses, and other entities reasonably expect from a disposal service company. Caring about recycling, having natural gas trucks, providing free shred days for its customers, managing the emerald ash borer, providing compostable services, and other services that are environmentally friendly and sustainable are just a few ways Western truly goes above and beyond.
Western Disposal is a company of individuals with families who truly care about their community in ways that are simply not measurable in a bottom line analysis. We are proud to have Western Disposal as a philanthropic partner in our community.

Build a Backpack
There are more than 15,000 families in the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley school districts who do not have the financial means to purchase basic school supplies for their kids. Not having the necessary supplies for classwork and homework has a dramatic effect on student learning and contributes to the achievement gap.
Your support has a direct, tangible, and profound impact on over 11,000 local students.
Donate a backpack! It’s as easy as 1-2-3…

Is this a nonprofit organization?
Crayons to Calculators is sponsored by four local nonprofits. But since it is a collaboration—and not a stand alone organization—it is not its own nonprofit. The collaboration holds Impact on Education to be its fiduciary, or agent of a principal, which serves as a go-to for tax and financial purposes. All donations are tax-deductible, tax receipts will be issued by Impact on Education.
What nonprofits are involved?
Our collaborative partners are Impact on Education and the Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley. Our beneficiaries are students of the St. Vrain Valley School District and the Boulder Valley School District.
Who is your primary sponsor?
Western Disposal Services.
I just want to send a check. Can I do that?
Yes, and we will send you a tax deduction receipt. Your financial contribution allows us to purchase supplies “at-cost” direct from school supplies producers. Please send your contribution to Crayons to Calculators – 721 Front Street, Suite A, Louisville, CO 80027.
Is my donation tax deductible?
Absolutely, however, since Crayons to Calculators is not a 501(c)(3) organization, you will receive a tax receipt from Impact on Education, our fiduciary.
Please Contact Us if you have any questions not answered on this website.
