Why I work at Impact on Education:
As a former public school teacher, and as someone who was raised by educators, I learned quickly that how a student and their family experiences “school” shapes more than just their young adulthood. Public education allows students from all backgrounds and communities to experience the world on a level playing field, and Impact on Education helps eliminate barriers to new opportunities for students who remind me so much of the learners that made a lasting impact on me.
What makes me smile:
My sweet niece and nephews, a crisp Diet Coke, good books, a new Taylor Swift album, and long walks with my Cattle Dog, Murphy!
Favorite teacher:
I was lucky to have many wonderful educators in my life, but my 7-12 English teacher, Mrs. Mefford, is a name that will always make me smile. She taught me more than how to tell a story and where to channel my creative energy, and showed me that following a passion can become a wonderful career. Amy was the “grown up” that I needed as someone who didn’t quite fit in, but loved to learn and explore the world around me. Outside of Mrs. Mefford, Dr. Carnahan, Dr. Hatwalkar, and the rest of the Humanities Division at Central Methodist University are some of the most welcoming, accepting professors, and I still consider them mentors and friends.
More about me:
I was born and raised in Northwest Missouri, and spent my formative years growing up on a farm and playing a lot of softball. After a brief attempt at college athletics, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English in 2016, followed by a Master of Education in 2018 and a Master of Arts in Communications in 2021. Before moving to Colorado, and after leaving Missouri, I spent time in Charleston, SC, working in an agency setting before transitioning to nonprofit communications. Outside of work, you can find me cheering loudly for Kansas City sports teams (and a few in Colorado – Go Avs!) and the Missouri Tigers, traveling, providing my group chats with breaking pop culture/sports news, or at Coors Field enjoying America’s pastime.
